“What
is a marine biologist from Hawaii doing in Durango?” It’s
a question Zane frequently hears. He just smiles and tells
his tale.
“After living in Hawaii for 17 years where I taught
Marine Science at Hawaii Pacific University,” Zane explains, “we
decided that Colorado was a better place to raise our family.
We spent a summer visiting small recreation-oriented towns
throughout Colorado and decided that Durango offered the best
combination of spectacular scenery, 4-season climate, access
to skiing, and a size big enough to offer extensive variety – yet
it was small enough to be convenient and friendly with easy
access to an extensive array of high quality outdoor activities.
During the following summer we visited properties throughout
La Plata County and decided that the resort area near Purgatory
was our favorite place for mountain beauty and ease of access
to both mountain sports and in-town activities.”
Thus, Zane and his family moved to Durango in 1996. They built
their house in the mountains and launched Splash Down Diving,
a scuba instruction and travel business, and Durango Mountain
Camp, a 6-week boarding camp for dyslexic youngsters. In 2001,
Zane obtained his real estate license and began working with
Durango Mountain Resort in the summer of 2003.
Aside from work, Zane enjoys spending time with his family:
wife MJ, and children Cullen (19), Kira (16), and Zane K (13).
Zane also makes time for mountain biking, skiing, and frequently
guides scuba adventures to the Caribbean and Pacific.
Since Zane lives near DMR and has a great enthusiasm for the
lifestyle that this area offers, he is always open to questions
about owning property near Durango Mountain Resort. |
